Business Analysis
What Is It?
"Business analysis" means different things to different people, but in general, it involves figuring out what a business needs, deciding how best to meet those needs, and making sure the needs get met.
Elemental specializes in business analysis for software implementation projects — making sure that, when a business wants to buy or develop software, it gets the software it needs.
What Does a Business Analyst Do?
A business analyst (BA) performs a number of different functions, and not always exactly the same ones. But, essentially, the BA will:
- interview stakeholders (people, including managers and users) whose jobs will be affected by the new software) to determine what the software needs to do,
- interpret and boil down what he's told in the interviews to produce a set of clear requirements.
- help people on the "business" side understand the technical issues involved in developing the software.
- help people on the technical side understand the concerns of the business people.
- as the software is developed, make sure that it meets the requirements established at the start.
- help people on the business side to understand the new software and to use it effectively.
