You need to have a plan
Some people succeed in business without a solid business plan - and some people win the 6/49 lottery. But don't count on either one happening to you.
A well-researched and well-written business plan is a must for obtaining financing.
Just as importantly, it helps you understand what you're trying to do in concrete, detailed terms. It allows you to assess your strengths, address your weaknesses, and really know what you're getting into - all before you commit serious time and money to your venture.
Planning is hard work
Writing a business or marketing plan involves a lot of time and effort. And, you need to learn how to write a plan before you can even attempt it. That's a lot of time and effort you aren't spending developing your product or meeting potential customers.
You can't get around participating in writing your plan; but it makes sense to outsource the technical and methodological aspects, so you can focus on your vision.
