Project and Product Documentation
Project Documentation
Technology implementation projects have a notoriously high failure rate. Sometimes failure is caused by factors specific to the technology or the environment; but often, failure results from poor project management practices.
A key element of good project management is careful attention to documentation, especially:
- the Project Plan, which contains all the vital information about your project, its goals, methods, and requirements; and
- the Project Schedule, which contains your timeline and resource assignments.
Creating strong planning and schedule documents, and using them, can help you keep your focus and ensure success by (among other things):
- making sure you really understand the needs behind the project (which is also a main goal of business analysis);
- letting you know if you're on schedule;
- helping you avoid resource conflicts;
- providing guidance if things go wrong.
Elemental's project and business analysis experience can help you lay the foundation for success by creating the thorough, effective documentation you need.
Product Documentation
Are you running a small-to-medium-sized company trying to produce and market a product? Then you're probably pretty busy. In the middle of all you're doing, writing a user manual or other technical documentation for your product probably doesn't seem very important.
But it is important. Good documentation can save you a world of problems, including:
- poor user experience;
- misunderstandings with clients;
- customer dissatisfaction; and
- a reputation for disorganization and shoddy work.
We have the background in both technical and writing skills to understand your needs, and to produce documentation that will make a difference to your company and your customers.
Many bright people fail to understand the importance of technical communications — you don't have to be one of them!
